Master the Art of Reblogging

Published by Tumble Guy on March 5th, 2012 |

Reblogging can be compared to Twitter’s retweet, which has been proven a great way to spread a message virally on the internet. The major difference is that Tumblr is more powerful.

You can reblog images and videos. This means that richer contents such as photos, gifs and videos spread faster in Tumblr.

If you are just beginning to use Tumblr, this post covers the basics of reblogging. If you are already an advanced user, you’ll find tips on how reblogging could gain you more followers if done properly.

Reblogging Guidelines

Here are a few tips on how to reblog the right way:

1. Add Value

Do not just reblog for the sake of having content for your tumblr blog. Reblog and add value to the original post. You can do this by adding a caption or description to photo or video posts without descriptions or captions.

2. Credit your Sources

Always credit your sources–at least the one who originally posted the post. It’s ok if you don’t know where the image or video originally came from, but if there’s already a sourced added to the post, don’t change it and claim it as yours.

3. Pace your Reblogs

Depending on the type of post you are reblogging, you should always pace your reblogs. This way you can control how often your followers see new posts from you and not flood their dashboard with reblogs. You can do this by adding your posts to queue.

4. Reblog unique, relevant posts

Posts with photos get reblogged more often than posts without images. Interestingly enough, posting about Tumblr, especially complaining about it, usually will get you reblogs.
