Tips on Adding Music to your Tumblr – How Not to Annoy your Visitors

Published by Tumble Guy on February 15th, 2012 |

If you’re using tumblr for personal use, you can definitely do whatever you want. You can have 1000x songs on a loop at 300 decibel on your Tumblr if you choose to. However, if you want to gain more followers and keep your visitors checking your tumblr for its great content, you might want to implement the steps below.

Here are three very important tips when you add music to your Tumblr:

Tip 1. Don’t Auto Play your Music

The most important tip about adding music is to not have it play automatically.

I’ll, reiterate that again, so I’m clear. Do not Auto Play music on tumblr.

I’m not trying to be a douche, and I know it’s nice to let your visitors know that you have music on your tumblr page by using autoplay, but I recommend not doing it. This will annoy the hell out of your visitors and in most case they will close your tumblr page immediately.

If you must do this, make sure you have infinite scrolling on your theme. This way any music that’s playing won’t restart over and over when your visitors are browsing through your Tumblr. If your music player allows it, lower the starting volume.

Tip 2. Keep your music player small

Unless your tumblr is solely dedicated to music, your music player should not take up a lot visual space on your page. Make it almost invisible so it doesn’t distract from all the other contents you have on your tumblr page.

Tip 3. Lower the starting volume

Remember that there are people who browse Tumblr in public areas. They will hate you forever if your music suddenly plays on maximum volume while they’re surfing in public libraries, at school, or in the middle of the night when most are sound asleep.

Having your music added on your Tumblr is a great way to personalize it, but if you want to gain more followers and not annoy others, following the steps above and you should be fine.
