How to Post on Tumblr Through Email

One way of publishing post to your tumblr is to post through email. Each tumblr blog has its own dedicated Tumblr e-mail address. This is an email address you should not share with anyone since they can get access through your tumblr using this email.

You can find this dedicated email for your tumblr by clicking “Blog Settings” located on your right sidebar.

How to Post through Email on Tumblr

Sending in posts via email is easy. Just write the email as you always do, where the subject is the title of the post and the email message is the actual content.

For specific types of post, follow these guidelines:

For Text Post:
These are plain emails with text in the message. The subject, or the title, is optional

For Photo Post:
Photo posts should have an image in the message. If you have several photos, just put theme all in the message.

For Link Post:
Link Posts should have the URL address of the link in the message. I suggest adding a subject since it’s hard to click the link without a title.

For Quote Post:
Quote Posts should have the quote within double quotation marks, and any credit on the line below with a single dash in front of it. No subjects.

For Chat Post:
Chat posts are written just like regular chat posts, with each person on their own line.

For Audio Post:
Audio posts should have an audio post attached to the message.

Emailing your post to your tumblr is pretty simple. You cannot schedule or queue posts like this, but you can add tags to your posts by adding a #in front of each. For example #watermelon and #shake would add the tags “watermelon” and “shake” to the post.

Tumblr Tips:

If your post are not showing up, make sure that the dedicated email address you’re sending to does not have any typos. Also, make sure that the format follows the guidelines above for each type of post.
